Basic Level Modelling In 3ds Max
With the “ StraightBlock ” out of the way, lets move onto “ 90degBlock ”. This will basically be the same as before, but instead of erasing 2 opposing sides, you erase 2 adjacent sides ( side by side ) creating from what could be seen as a 90 degree bend if positioned onto our StraightBlock correctly.
Now just like StraightBlock. We need to align the wonky vertices up to the edge, so all is nice and straight. I trust you can do this on your own now. You will of course notice that the bottom polygon ( floor ) of this block is also wonky, so use the axis constraints and be sure to straighten this up as well, it will just be one vertice, in the bottom corner of the two sides we just erased. Don't notice anything out of place? You will.
Next up is the ThreeWayBlock . Does exactly what it says on the tin, it allows 3 other blocks to connect to it, creating an optional route, which gives levels that tiny bit more variety... y'know? So, erase any 3 sides, don't worry... you can't possibly erase the wrong 3 sides here. Then, when you've done that, sort out those wonky vertices. If you're not sure where they should be placed exactly, refer to the “Ceiling” of your block , that will always remain the correct shape. And just to clarify, we're using Axis Constraints to do this, and since we're not moving any up or down, you will only need to move them whilst locked on X or Y ... or both! I've whipped up a basic demonstration for you:
